Shipping Ports:

Bolivia is a landlocked country, hence uses Chile’s port of Africa and Iquique. Generally, RoRo shipment method is used for used vehicle shipment. On request of customers, more expensive yet convenient and safest shipment method, container shipment is used.

Left-Hand Drive Vehicles:

Left-Hand Drive vehicles are allowed to be import in the country.

Documents required while importing a used vehicle in Bolivia:

  • Original certificate of Title and Registration
  • Import Permit- from the Ministry of External Affairs, must be approved before importation
  • Original Commercial/ Purchase Invoice
  • Original Certificate of Origin for shipments other than diplomatic
  • Insurance Policy – Original and two copies
  • License from Transport Control Department
  • Certificate of Condition – Attesting vehicle is in good condition
  • Description of Automobile Including the make, model, year, etc.
  • Verification certificate (for non-diplomats)

Note: All documents provided will be returned to you.

Duties and Taxes:

Temporary Import:

  • Diplomats are entitled for duty-free importation of used vehicles. However, Non-diplomats have to pay all duties and taxes.
  • Details regarding the vehicle should be forwarded to the destination prior to the arrival of the vehicle.
  • Before vehicle shipment, authorization must be obtained from SGS or Inspectorate for vehicles of F.O.B. value over $12,000.
