Shipping method into Burundi

1. Containerized :

Container shipping for transporting your car is the safest way to get your vehicles to Burundi.

Container Shipment Method

With every passing day, the popularity of Japanese used vehicles is increasing. Japanese vehicles are famous for their reliability, comfort and durability. Almost every country in the world import used vehicle from Japan. For the vehicle shipment, used vehicle importers or buyers use the shipment method that is suitable for them. One of the most safe and convenient method of vehicle shipment is container shipment.

Containerization is a system of intermodal freight transport using intermodal containers (also called shipping containers and ISO containers). The containers are generally made of steel or aluminium and have standardized dimensions. In general, there are boxes or containers within a box. In container shipping standard sized containers of 20 foot, 40 foot, 45 foot and 53 foot are used.Containerization is a system of intermodal freight transport using intermodal containers (also called shipping containers and ISO containers). The containers are generally made of steel or aluminium and have standardized dimensions. In general, there are boxes or containers within a box. In container shipping standard sized containers of 20 foot, 40 foot, 45 foot and 53 foot are used.

For global trade, container shipping services are important. Used vehicles from Japan are transported through this method of shipment as vehicles are kept securely inside the vessel. This shipping method is usually the safest and fastest way for transportation of cargo.

The vehicles can be loaded and unloaded, transported over long distances and are transferred from one mode of transport to another without being opened. The cargoes are loaded and discharged at much faster pace than other method of shipment. The handling of vehicles is done with cranes and special forklift trucks as handling system is completely mechanized. All containers are numbered and computerized system is used for tracking them.

The vehicle to be shipped is loaded into a container along with any personal or house hold items that the customer might want to ship. Shipping companies even give the option of Less than Container Load (LCL), for customers who do not require a full container as they have limited amount of cargo to be shipped. In the LCL container car shipping option, items from multiple customers are shipped into a single container.

There are two types of container Loading:
Full container Load (FCL) – A full container load is an ISO Standard container that is loaded and unloaded under the account of one shipper and only one consignee. In comparison to other, it offers complete schedule flexibility and a high frequency of sailings. FCL is intended to designate a container loaded to its allowable maximum weight or volume. No matter if the cargo is half loaded or quarter loaded, if booked by one shipper under one shipment, then it is FCL shipment. Less-than-container load (LCL) – This shipment is not big enough as to hold a standard cargo-container. When the shipper does not have much cargo to reserve one full container, then he’ll go with LCL shipment. The cargo is shipped together with other consignments for the same route in a container. When it comes to cost and convenience, going with LCL is more sensible decision.

In container shipment as vehicles transported are enclosed in containers, hence are less likely to get damaged during shipment. Container shipment method is also beneficial if one wants to transport some goods such as household items or other along with the vehicle. When compare to transportation cost, container shipment method is somewhat more expensive than RoRo shipment. There is no limitation with the capacity of cargo that container can carry. As compared to other shipping methods, less number of crew are required for vehicle shipment. These container ships are generally larger and faster than General cargo ships.

2. Ro/Ro (ROLL ON ROLL OFF) :

The most affordable method for transporting cars overseas. A Ro/Ro vessel has a ramp which opens up to allow the cars to be driven into the vessel. And in it your cars locked and secure for any Damage.

RoRo shipping method

Roll-on Roll-off popularly known as RoRo is a method by which vehicles and machinery are loaded and unloaded of heavy cargoes. This is the most common, efficient and least expensive shipping method. RoRo shipping method is used to carry cargos that are driven on and off the ship. This is in contrast to LoLo (Lift-on, Lift-off) vessels, which use a crane to load and unload cargo. Generally used vehicles from Japan are driven directly onto the RoRo vessel and secured to the car decks. They are kept securely inside the vessel. Only spare tires and factory fitted accessories are allowed. For vehicle transportation, this method is the simplest and cheapest. This shipping method is usually the safest and least expensive way for transportation of oversized cargo..

Basically the idea for RoRo shipment was created by Japanese vehicle manufacturers to ship their vehicles to various countries in a fast and efficient manner by using particular ships called “vehicle carriers”. Using the ships own integral loading ramps, vehicles are simply driven on to the ship from the port of loading (‘Rolled on’) and driven off the ship when the vehicle arrives at the destination (‘Rolled off’).

The reason for popularity of International RoRo shipping is because it is cost effective and efficient. Shipping via RoRo service from Japan can be arranged from the major ocean ports: Toyohashi, Chiba, and Yokohama. Different types of RoRo vessels include ferries, cargo ships, barges, cruise ferries. Major overseas destinations include major ports in Western Europe, Mediterranean, Africa, Asia, Australia & New Zealand, Central America and South America.

Procedure for shipment:

  • Vehicles are lined up at docks with the key generally left in the ignition.
  • Port workers then drive the vehicle onto the ship and strap it down to make it ready for sailing.
  • This applies to all types of vehicles and many other types of oversized cargo.

Port workers handle everything this helps in keeping the cost of international shipping down. Nowadays, all type of motor vehicles such as trucks, boats, buses, motor homes, travel trailers, tractors, excavators, cranes, and other high & heavy equipment and machinery are handled by RoRo carrier.

The only problem with RoRo shipping is geographical coverage. RoRo shipping does not encompasses as much as area as that of container shipping. In some countries, RoRo shipment transport is not even an option for international trade. ROPAX (Roll-on/Roll-off Passenger) describes a RoRo vessel built for cargo transportation in addition with passenger accommodation.

In shipping industry, measurement of cargo is done generally by the metric ton, but in case of RoRo measurement is done in Lanes in Metres (LIMs). This is calculated by multiplying the cargo length in metres by the number of decks and by its width in lanes. In case if the vehicle is too big to fit into a container, then one is left with RoRo method for shipment. RoRo shipping method requires the vehicle to “Roll on Roll off” the slope. It is the most popular way of transporting cargoes and is normally cheaper than container shipping method.
